How Butterfly Valves Serve in HVAC Thermal Water Circuits
This post will focus on the comprehensive overview of butterfly valves for HVAC applications, as discussed by Belimo Product Manager Joseph Carcare of Belimo Air Control. We'll explore a variety of topics, such as the parts and pieces that make up a butterfly valve, its applications, control and flow curves, actuator ranges, and the value Belimo brings to the market. Our goal here is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of butterfly valves, so you can make well-informed decisions in the future. Let's dive in!
A butterfly valve is a quarter turn rotatable disc valve, which is used in larger pipe diameters to regulate flow. The valve consists of an outside casting (also called the body), stem or shaft, disc and rubber sealing seat. The valve is operated by rotating the disc 90 degrees, allowing either full opening or full closure for flow control. Belimo’s butterfly valve offering is comprehensive and designed for the HVAC application market.
Belimo’s products are designed to provide unparalleled ease of installation, energy efficiency, and reliable operation. Plus, they offer a wide variety of actuators that vary in terms of characteristics, features and specs.
These include:
- internal and external manual override (IMO/EMO), for manual operation cater to safely positioning of the valve engine when manual intervention is required
- limit-switched actuators, to limit butterfly border flow travel
- spring return actuators, to return the valve to a preconfigured position upon loss of power
- non-spring return actuators, for higher torque and faster valve positioning
Our newest butterfly actuator, the PR, is a key component of the product line that offers a highly dynamic flow and control curve for fast and reliable operation. Maintenance and support of the product is also readily available in the market, with prompt and cost-friendly delivery to customers.
The features and value of our butterfly valve line have made it one of the top choices in the industrial market today.
Butterfly Valves are fundamental components in large hydronic systems. Unfortunately, most butterfly valves are less than ideal – they leak. Their running times are not optimized for HVAC applications, are heavy, hard to access wiring, and cannot be put into operation quickly. Belimo’s butterfly valve series are the exception, with a complete range of resilient seat, grooved, and high-performance butterfly valve assemblies, sizes from 2” to 24”, and a variety of actuator control signal inputs to meet all your needs. Belimo assemblies offer zero leakage along with NEMA 2 or 4X rated actuator enclosures, designed to provide ease of installation, application flexibility, longevity, and reliability.
This comprehensive overview of butterfly valves and their applications in the HVAC market provides insight into what the product line offers. From the definitions and parts and pieces, control and flow curves, the range of actuators, service and delivery and the value for money they provide, there’s something for everyone. We hope this blog post has been beneficial and we look forward to bringing you more like it in the near future.
